Laura B. Miller
Landscape Architect, NV #944
I enjoy digging in the dirt as much as drawing on the table and as much as working on a team with clients, community entities and consultants. Purposefully, I come from a varied background of engineer/landscape architect firm, design-build, corporate firm and academia. I strive to be a creative, technically savvy leader and have always looked toward the challenge throughout my career. I have both my bachelor’s degree from UNLV and master’s degree from RISD in landscape architecture. I have grown up among the generations of influence across the Las Vegas Valley and have pursued a knowledge base from other parts of the world that seeks to enhance our home, the Mojave Desert and beyond.
A healthy mix of studio design and planning, as well as, on-site construction management comprise my working background. My project experience ranges from regional-scale roadway projects such as the Nevada Department of Transportation Landscape and Aesthetic Corridor Plans Click Here down to intimate details, such as designing a stone garden table. My true passion is split between the environment and arts: working with community groups in order to build a creative stewardship, which is showcased in my graduate thesis, “Making Public with Site” Click here, water conservation and native material selection. I know a lot about outdoor art and local environmental processes and use this language as a base in every project I consider.
Other interesting tips and responsibilities about me: I require quiet time on my yoga mat on a daily basis, I like to throw in a dash of cultural event attendance so that I know what is going on in the community around me and most importantly staying engaged with my incredibly active son reading, building with LEGOs and swimming. It is such a gift to share this big and beautiful world with him every day.
