Are you A Member of the Public

What does it truly mean to be a member of the public? What delineates the bounds between private and public space? How does the community perceive public space?

As a member of this collaborative team of RISD and Brown grad students we asked these questions by hosting an event scheduled during a historic home tour in Providence, RI. Coffee and hand-made public cookies were given to contributors to our inquiry; along with a flashy sticker noting, “I am a member of the public”.

The bigger questions we were trying to navigate for ourselves by interacting with local community members, “What is public art?” and “What does “public” really mean?”  This was a Public Art class led by Artist, Janet Zweig {Click Here}
